In 2020, Holland Recycling founded a new company, Holland Circulair. This company handles the collection of white goods. On behalf of Stichting Open, the white goods are then processed into secondary raw materials. This way, valuable raw materials are preserved.
Refurbishment of white goods
At Holland Circulair, we quickly concluded that a lot of the white goods being collected were still perfectly repairable. Holland Circulair then trained white goods technicians and began testing, repairing, and refurbishing washing machines and dryers. Wear-and-tear parts are also preventively replaced, so future users can enjoy their “new” washing machine or dryer for years to come.
Parts still suitable for reuse are also harvested. Holland Circulair then sells the machines to thrift stores, where they are resold under the statutory warranty period.
Certification
Naturally, the activities described above needed to be certified. Since 1 July 2015, e-waste may only be processed by recycling companies certified according to WEEELABEX/CENELEC. This certification sets the quality standard for the collection, storage, transport, recycling, and reuse of e-waste. The certification also includes compliance checks by independent auditors and requires reporting on processed volumes and recycling results achieved. The processed quantities are registered with the National (W)EEE Register. Holland Circulair has had its entire process certified (from waste to product).
Certification achieved
After several intensive weeks of preparation, we’re pleased to announce that our sister company Holland Circulair is now WEEELABEX/CENELEC certified. This certification enables Holland Circulair to further expand its collection and refurbishment activities.
