Our economy is data driven. The amount of data collected by companies has increased enormously in recent years. Large paper archives have been replaced by small hard disks or SSDs. With the introduction of the GDPR, the destruction of this data has taken on greater importance.
Would you like to know what it costs to delete your data permanently?
Why wipe hard disks?
When your business replaces IT hardware, you want to be sure that all your business and personal data is 100% erased from end-of-life hardware. You can wipe the hard disk. The advantage of wiping hard disks is that they retain their utility value. Due to the fact that the product life of hard disks is extended by means of wiping, this option is much more sustainable than having hard disks shredded. In addition, wiping is also an interesting option financially.
How does it work?
Wiping hard disks in 5 simple steps:
- Fill in the contact form.
- We will contact you to make an appointment.
- We arrange the logistics and collect everything securely.
- Your hard disks will be certified as wiped.
- You receive GDPR-proof documentation!
Wiping hard disks is secure, good for the environment and good for your wallet.
When to wipe a hard disk?
When is it advantageous to wipe a hard disk? In terms of security, there is no difference between wiping and shredding, as in both cases your data is 100% destroyed. In both cases, you can also prove this with the documentation you receive from us. If we wipe a hard disk, however, we can still sell it, which is why wiping is only of interest for hard disks with sufficient capacity. If the hard disks are too old, wiping is not worthwhile. Wiping a hard disk takes a very long time as it is completely overwritten several times.
Wiping hard disks with the correct software
Holland Recycling is a certified business partner of Certus Software, the only EU-based data wiping service provider. The software is certified according to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Common Criteria EAL3+. This is currently the highest security standard recognised in the EU for data destruction. Depending on external or internal compliance regulations, for example the GDPR, you can choose from 21 different erasure methods to comply with them. Holland Recycling uses the standard overwrite protocol by default. Other wiping techniques can be applied by agreement, but may affect the residual value we pay for hard disks.
Most secure data wiping software
Your first priority, of course, is that the data on your hard disks is 100% guaranteed to be destroyed. We understand this. We therefore work exclusively with Certus Software. The GDPR states that you are obliged to securely delete data from any storage medium. You need an audit-proof document that proves this. Certus Software is fully certified and can generate comprehensive wiping reports in different formats. Certus has the following certificates:
It is possible to generate different reports when data is deleted. Sample reports can be downloaded via the links below to give you an idea.
Hardware Audit Report
The hardware audit report is a summary of all the parameters of your device. Each report is individually customisable. Reports are available in PDF, CSV, XML and XLS format. Download an example of a Hardware Audit Report (PDF) here.
Report on certified data deletion (single)
This report is in accordance with Article 17 of the GDPR and is therefore your proof of the certified data deletion for a single device. Download an example of a certified data deletion report (PDF) for a single device here.
Report on certified data deletion (multi)
This report is in accordance with Article 17 of the GDPR and is therefore your proof of the certified data deletion for multiple devices. Download an example of a certified data deletion report (PDF) for multiple devices here.
